Learning Objectives: Sue Keirstead, Fall 2005

LAB # 1: DIFFUSION - LEARNING OBJECTIVES
  1. Diffusion is the net movement of solute particles as a result of random movement of those particles
  2. Net movement during diffusion is from a region of high concentration of the solute to a region of low concentration of that solute
  3. The rate of diffusion depends on the magnitude (size) of the concentration gradient and temperature
  4. The diffusion of a solute can be described by the following equation: d = k X (square root of t), where d = distance, k = constant, t = time
  5. Diffusion is a useful means of moving particles (solute or gas) over short distances quickly, but not over long distances
