QUICK GUIDE FOR WRITING YOUR RESEARCH PAPER 1. Pick a topic of interest to you. Click here to view a list of possible paper topics. 2. Do a computer search for scientific literature relating to your topic. You will focus on two recent (written in the past 8 years) original research articles in the body of your paper, but you must include discussion of at least six recent original research articles related to your question. Click here to go to the Medline (PubMed) database. Click here for other useful links. 3. Select an advisor, due end of 4th week of class (Friday, September 28). Contact the faculty member whose work is most closely related to the topic that you have chosen. If (s)he agrees to be your advisor, have that faculty member to send an e-mail to Prof. Barnett confirming that you will be working together (confirmation must be received by 9/28).Click here for faculty contact information. 4. Choose the two major articles that you will discuss (must get advisor's approval). 5. Submit an outline, due end of 6th week of class (Friday, October
19). 6. Submit first draft, due end of 11th week of class (Friday, November 16). Include:
Turn in to your advisor: a) your rough draft; b) the signed outline; and c) copies of the two major articles covered in your paper. 7. Revise your paper according to your advisor’s suggestions. 8.
