This program serves as a focal point for continuing education in the area of Biomedical Physiology, and as a means for the Department of Physiology to form research alliances with local industry. This initiative includes the following areas:

1) A series of short, intense, one-week courses on subjects of special interest to the biomedical community; our goal is to offer 3 short courses per year. We believe this type of course will serve an important unmet need in the industrial community. Some preliminary course proposals are listed below.

2) A new Master's Degree Program especially designed for those involved in research at local industrial sites. The course requirements are developed around the 1-week intense courses, along with additional courses that are available on UNITE and can be viewed at the industrial site. The research can be performed either on site or in laboratories associated with the Department of Physiology. The faculty in the department will serve as the advisors for the master's degree. We see this program as a way for our faculty to become involved in the exciting research that is going on in our industrial community.

3) An Industrial Advisory Board to help direct and focus this program in the future.

We want to emphasize that the purpose of these programs is to serve the needs of the local community and we appreciate any feedback regarding their development.
